For this activity you will be drafting the details of an imaginary Transcendental society. Please follow the directions for numbers 1-5, and be sure that all of your responses are representative of the ideals and beliefs of the Transcendentalists.
- Please copy and paste the following five instructions into a word document or Google doc and write a response for each one. SAVE THIS DOCUMENT TO YOUR STUDENT FILE or SHARE IT WITH ME (sampsome@wauwatosa.k12.wi.us).
- Then, copy and paste the text from that document into a comment for this post. Make sure your name is included somewhere in the post. If time allows, take a look at some of the societies your classmates have created. DO NOT look at their work until you have completed yours. This will assure that you aren't "accidentally borrowing" ideas from someone. :-)
- Select a name for your society. Your name should somehow relate to Transcendentalism. Some examples: Unified Society of Free-Thinkers (USFT), Individuals for Social Change (ISC), and Tree-Huggers Allegiance (THA).
- Write a pledge illustrating the values and allegiances of your society (kind of like a mini-constitution).
- Describe the type of environment your society would be in... i.e. would it be a rural society, an urban society? An island? A combination?
- Explain the kinds of work your society would encourage its citizens to engage in.
- Create four laws/requirements of your society. In addition to naming these laws/guidelines, be sure to explain them, and carefully explain the consequences of not adhering to these rules.
